Competent in reflectie en ontwikkeling
(Competent in professional reflection and development)

For the purposes of this project, this means:
  • Ik kan wat ik als docent doe en wil op het gebied van internationalisering verantwoorden vanuit een goed doordachte visie. (I can justify what I do and want as a teacher in the area of internationalism from a well-thought-out vision.)
  • Ik kan d.m.v. een digitaal portfolio mijn competenties op het gebied van internationalisering en ICT aantonen. (I can, by means of a digital portfolio, demonstrate my competencies in the areas of internationalism and ICT.)
For the first item, I could show the applications I wrote to request subsidies from the European platform. Looking at reflection in a broader sense, I think the place where I can best show my skills is my blog. It's only rarely about education, though. I don't often have time to write, or particularly the inclination to do so, except when I travel. Travelling seems to bring out my more reflective qualities, and the feeling that I need to express my feelings, so that's generally when I write. If you click on the link, you can then click on the category 'Being a teacher' on the right to see the sum-total of what I've written on that subject. But I think the travel-writing is pretty good, too, if I do say so myself!

However, there is one other bit of writing I'm rather proud of, that was published in the AoB Onderwijsblad in 2009, called 'Starheid systeem leidt tot verlies van talent.' I wrote this with a friend who also teaches, after we had many conversations about the differences between the Dutch educational system and the ones we had worked in (the US and Australia).

For the second item in this component, you've just seen it!
